 The Beginning of Joseph's Story- জোসেফের গল্পের শুরু

It contains both human flaws like resentment, hatred, pride, passion, lies, intrigue, cruelty, and horror as well as lofty virtues like endurance, loyalty, bravery, nobility, and compassion. This is the most intricate and intriguing story in the Quran.

According to a related story, one of the factors leading to its revelation was a request by Jews to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) for information regarding Joseph (pbuh), one of their earlier prophets. His narrative had been tainted in some places by insertion and omission, and it had been perverted in others. As a result, it was revealed in its entirety, down to the last meticulous detail, in the Book of Allah (Quran).

Allah, the All-Powerful, said:

"Through Our Revelations to you, contained in this Quran, We narrate to you (Muhammad) the greatest of stories. You were among those who were ignorant of it (the Quran) before to this (i.e., prior to receiving Divine Inspiration). (Quran, Ch. 12:3)

Also, Almighty Allah commanded:

"So, O Muhammad, We relate to you some information about what previously occurred, and in fact We have given you a Reminder (this Quran) from Us. On the Day of the Resurrection, those who reject it (the Quran, that is, do not accept it or follow its directives) will undoubtedly carry a heavy burden (of sins). They will remain in that (condition in the Fire of Hell), and the Day of the Resurrection will bring them a heavy load of evil.(Ch 20:99-101)

From beginning to end, Joseph's (pbuh) tale flows smoothly; both its content and form are consistent. It gives you a sense of the extent of Allah's might and sovereignty as well as how He carries out His decrees despite the difficulty of human interference.

Joseph spent his entire life fending off plots created by those closest to him. He was the target of his brothers' murderous plot, which they later changed to exile. He experienced this when he was a youngster. He was purchased for a pittance and then sold into slavery in Egypt. Then, after being the target of a great man's wife's attempted seduction, she sent him to prison, where he spent some time. Despite all of this, he eventually got near to the Egyptian throne and was appointed as the monarch's main minister. He then started praying to Allah from his position as the supreme being.

Allah's plans came to fruition, and the situation was resolved. This is the main idea (theme) of the narrative. Regarding the way it is presented, it is a wonderment in form and design.

The narrative is told in a series of episodes. You get scene after scene, and the transitions are illuminating, educational, and creative. There are also creative flaws that require the reader's imagination to fill in the sense and the depth of the picture, the likes of which no human artist can produce.

The narrative starts with a dream and concludes with its analysis. Joseph (pbuh), the son of the Prophet Jacob (pbuh), awoke from his sleep happy by a beautiful dream he had just had as the sun rose over the horizon illuminating the earth in its morning beauty. He ran to tell his father about it as he was overcome with enthusiasm.

"Oh, my dad! Undoubtedly, I had a dream in which I saw the sun, the moon, and eleven stars all bending down before me. (Ch 12:4)

Face of his father was beaming. He predicted that Joseph would be the one through whom the prophecy of his great-grandfather, Prophet Abraham (pbuh), would be realized, as his descendants would uphold Abraham's household's light and disseminate the message of Allah to all people.
As a result, it was reported that Allah's Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was questioned about who the most honorable person was. He affirmed, "The most God-fearing." We don't want to ask you about this, the people said. The most honorable person, according to him, is Joseph, the prophet of Allah, the prophet's father, and the son of Allah's devoted friend (Abraham). (Hadith Al-Bukhari) The father cautioned Joseph against informing his brothers about his dream because he was fully aware of their animosity.

Oh, my boy! Don't tell your brothers about your vision lest they plan against you. Verily! Satan is a clear opponent of mankind. Your Lord will thus pick you, instruct you in dream interpretation (among other things), and perfect His favor upon you and the descendants of Jacob, just as He did previously upon your fathers, Abraham and Isaac. Verily! Your Lord is All-Wise and All-Knowing. (Ch 12:5-6)

Joseph took his father's advice to heart. He kept what he had seen from his brothers. He struggled to feel comfortable telling them what was on his heart and in his fantasies because they despised him so much, as is well known.

Joseph, who was eighteen years old, had a kind demeanor and was quite attractive and strong. He showed consideration, kindness, and respect. Benjamin, his brother, was also pleasant. Both were born to Rachel, the same mother. The father loved the two more than his other children because of their delicate qualities, and he would not allow them to leave his sight. He kept them occupied with labor in the home garden in order to keep them safe.

The final scene features Jacob and his son. Another starts with Joseph's brothers scheming to harm him.

The Quran makes no mention of Joseph telling them about his dream, although the pages of the Old Testament do. The brothers would have acknowledged it if it were true. According to the Old Testament, they would kill him since he had violated their own rights. Indeed, Joseph followed his father's directive and withheld his vision from his brothers.

The concept of throwing Joseph into a well, which was thought to be the safest course of action, was still being discussed. He was not killed as planned, but his kidnapping into a foreign country was authorized. It was the smartest of all concepts.

They planned to get water from the well, so as soon as they left the house, they went straight there. One of them encircled Joseph in his arms and held him firmly. Joseph was startled by this strange conduct and fought to free himself. To hold him, more brothers rushed in. A man among them unzipped his shirt. Joseph was raised and thrown into the deep well by further participants. Their cold hearts did not change in response to Joseph's pitiful cries.

The distraught father started crying:

The father made a right decision by relying in Allah for protection against the plot they had against him and his son and by pleading for enormous patience that is doubtless. The scene dims, and then it shifts to the well where Joseph was dumped.

Joseph succeeded in locating a stone ledge to grab onto in the deep well. There was complete silence and darkness all around him. He began to wonder in fear what would happen to him. Where could he get food from? What caused his brothers to turn against him? Would his dad be aware of his situation? A smile from his father flashed before his eyes, reminding him of the love and care he had always showed him. Joseph started to fervently pray, begging Allah to save him. His anxiety started to wane with time. His Creator put the young guy through a severe test in order to instill in him a spirit of endurance and bravery. Joseph submitted himself to his Lord's will.

The vast desert is seen in the next scene. A vast caravan traveling to Egypt can be seen towards the horizon, consisting of men, horses, and camels. At this well-known source of water, the merchant caravan came to a stop. A man sank into his bucket. The bucket came crashing down, startling Joseph, and he caught it before it could hit the water. The man started to move when he noticed that the cargo was unusually heavy, so he looked into the well. He was astonished to see that a man was grasping the rope! Better give me a help fellows, he cried to his buddies as he gripped the rope tightly. It appears that I discovered genuine wealth in the well.

They just cared about money, thus they saw in him a wonderful prize. As soon as possible, they bound his feet with iron chains and transported him to Egypt, far from his beloved Canaanite birthplace. The word quickly traveled across the Egyptian city that a young slave with remarkable good looks and strength was for sale. Hundreds of people gathered at the slave market. Each person craned his neck to look at the attractive specimen, whether they were bidders, elites, or bystanders. The bidding was rabid as each buyer attempted to outbid the other, giving the auctioneer a field day. Ultimately, Egypt's chief minister, Aziz, outbid everyone and took Joseph to his palace.

See how Allah, the Almighty, discloses the essence of this protracted tale right from the start: And although the majority of humanity are unaware, Allah has complete authority over His affairs. (Ch 12:21)

Joseph is no longer bound by the chains of servitude. He was dumped into the well, separated from his father, pulled out, turned into a slave, bought at the market, and given over to this man, the chief minister Aziz. The dangers quickly came after one another, rendering Joseph defenseless.

The first rung of Joseph's ladder to greatness is what we perceive as dangers and defamation. Allah takes action with decisiveness. He executes his strategy despite other people's plans and while they are still being formed. He thwarts their scheme as a result, fulfilling Allah's promise. Prophethood was promised to Joseph by Allah. The man who bought Joseph was forced to love him, and he was not a man of low status. He was a prominent figure and member of Egypt's ruling class.

As a result, Joseph was delighted when the Egyptian president ordered his guards to free him from the cumbersome chains that were binding his swollen feet. He was also taken aback when he warned Joseph not to betray his confidence; if he behaved himself, he wouldn't suffer any bad treatment. Joseph grinned at his donor, expressed gratitude, and pledged his allegiance.

Following his rescue, he was held captive in iron shackles, and after being freed, he lived in a lavish mansion with plenty of food. But he cried every day because he missed his parents and brother Benjamin so much.

Joseph's good looks became the topic of conversation. He was described as the most beautiful man anyone had ever seen, and he was the subject of poetry. His face was flawlessly beautiful. His facial beauty was enhanced by the purity of his heart and inner soul. People traveled to the city from afar to catch a glimpse of him. The most attractive women and the wealthiest females nursed the desire to possess him, but he never once displayed arrogance or conceit. He was always respectful and modest.

He received knowledge of life's conditions and wisdom in matters. He was gifted with the ability to hold people's attention with his conversation. He was endowed with dignity and self control, which gave him an alluring personality. His master immediately realized Joseph was a gift from Allah. He realized that Joseph was the most honorable, open-minded, and truthful person he had ever met. As a result, he gave Joseph control over his home, treated him with respect, and treated him like a son.

She must have been an extremely attractive and bright woman, or else the chief minister wouldn't have picked her out of all the lovely women in the kingdom. When Joseph was a teenager, he experienced a psychiatric problem, which Almighty Allah was able to cure.

No one thus invited would want to pass up the chance to dine with the chief minister's wife, and they also had a secret crush on the dashing Joseph. She joked with a few of her close friends that they would only come if she introduced them to Joseph.

Therefore, when Zulaikha brought up the subject, they were astonished. "I have heard of those who say that I have fallen in love with the young Hebrew man, Joseph." Suddenly, the feast was silent. All of the guests' hands immediately fell silent, and all eyes turned to the wife of the chief minister. She ordered the fruit to be served, saying, "I grant that he is a charming fellow. I can't deny my love for him. For a very long time, I have adored him.

She called for Joseph to show there at that very moment. He entered the hallway with poise and a veiled glance. When Zulaikha addressed him by name, he stood up. The visitors were astounded and perplexed. His face shone and was adorned with man-angelic magnificence. It exuded total innocence to such an extent that one could sense the serenity deep within his soul.

The chief minister cherished Joseph because he was a young man of integrity, a devoted servant, and was completely innocent. He made the difficult choice to imprison an innocent guy. He had no other option, though. He reasoned that by avoiding Zulaikha's gaze, Joseph's honor would likewise be preserved. That evening, the chief minister sent Joseph to prison with a broken heart.

Joseph's third test was in prison. Allah gave him the extraordinary power of dream interpretation during this time. Two additional men arrived in the prison about the same time. One served as the king's cupbearer, and the other served as the monarch's cook. Due to the atmosphere of piety that shone on Joseph's face, the two men could tell that he was not a regular criminal. Both men had vivid dreams and wanted to know what they meant. The cook for the king saw two birds chowing down on bread while standing in a location in his dream. In his dream, the cupbearer served wine to the monarch. The two went to Joseph and shared their dreams with him, asking him to interpret them.

The chef was crucified, while the cupbearer went back to the palace, just as Joseph had said would happen.

Allah The Almighty related:

"And two young men followed him into the prison. One of them proclaimed, "Truly, I saw myself pressing wine in a dream." The other person chimed in, "Truly, I saw myself (in a dream) carrying bread and birds were eating thereof." Tell us how this should be interpreted, they demanded. Undoubtedly, we believe that you are a Muhsineen (doer of good).

And I have adhered to the faith of my forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and we have never been able to ascribe any partners of any kind to Allah. This is from the Grace of Allah to us and to mankind, but most men think not (i.e. they neither believe in Allah nor worship Him).

The scene in the prison ends, and a new scene begins in the king's bedroom. The king is dozing off. On the banks of the Nile, he sees himself. Before him, the water is vanishing and turning into muck. In the mud, the fish start to skip and hop. Seven thin cows emerge from the river behind seven big cows. The seven thin people eat up the seven overweight people. The king is in fear. The seven green grain heads emerge from the muck after growing on the riverbanks. Seven drays of grain are growing in the same location.

The king awoke confused, surprised, and terrified. He had no idea what this all meant. He told them his dream and sent for the priests, ministers, and sorcerers.

The cupbearer was dispatched by the king to question Joseph about his dream.

The king was shocked beyond belief. Who might this individual be? Joseph had to be released from jail and immediately brought before him, the guy demanded. As soon as the king's messenger went to get him, Joseph resisted leaving the cell until his innocence was established. Maybe they said he tried to rape them or cut the women's hands. Perhaps some other untrue claim was made. What was specifically told to the populace to support Joseph's prison sentence is unknown to us. The ambassador went back to the monarch. Where is Joseph? the king enquired of him. Did I not tell you to go get him?

When asked why, Joseph responded, "I asked for this inquiry" so Al-Aziz would know that I had not betrayed him covertly. And, in fact! Allah does not direct the betrayer's scheme. And I don't absolve myself of responsibility. The human ego is undoubtedly evil-inclined, save when my Lord shows His Mercy (to whoever He chooses). My Lord, who is abounding in forgiveness and mercy. (Ch 12:50-53).

Following this, the narrative of the chief minister's wife is utterly ignored by the Quranic style. What transpired when she provided her with clear evidence is unknown. She is still the subject of folklore, nevertheless. According to legend, she married Joseph after her husband passed away, and lo and behold, she was a virgin. She admitted that her spouse had never touched a woman and had been very old. According to other traditions, she lost her sight while sobbing for Joseph. She left her palace and became missing in the city's streets.

Joseph requested to be appointed controller of the granaries so that he could watch over the nation's crop and protect it from the impending drought. Joseph only wanted to save hungry nations for a personal benefit; he did not intend to take an opportunity or pursue personal gain; he merely wanted to rescue hungry nations for a period of seven years. He wanted to make sure that many people wouldn't perish as a result, which was a pure act of nobleness on his side.

Thus, We granted Joseph full control over the land, allowing him to take ownership whenever and wherever he pleased. Whoever We please receives Our Mercy, and We ensure that the benefit of Al Muhsineen (the good deeds) is not lost. (Ch 12:54-57)

Joseph counseled the king to sell his grain to the impoverished nations at a reasonable price because his realm was blessed with stored grain. The king concurred, and the good news quickly traveled throughout the area.

Joseph instantly recognized his brothers when they asked him to buy their necessities, but they were unaware of him. How did they do it? Since he had been hurled into the deep, black well many years prior, Joseph was no longer present to them.

They promised that they would make an effort to secure his father's approval. And (Joseph) instructed his servants to place the cash they had used to purchase the maize into their bags so they would know it when they returned to their own country and could return. (Ch 12:58-62)

They were shocked to see the money purse was still there when they later opened their grain sacks. They hurried to their father and said, "Look, dad! Benjamin was to have gone with them, but Jacob refused.

"I won't send him with you unless you promise me in Allah's name that you will return him to me in the same condition as when you took him." They made a serious commitment. Allah is witness to your vow, he reminded them. Then he suggested that they approach the city from a number of various entrances.

Jacob wished them well as they departed and prayed to Allah to keep them safe. While making the arduous voyage to Egypt, the brothers took special care of Benjamin.

"My loving brother, I am the brother who was lost and whose name you are constantly repeating," sobbed Joseph as tears streamed down his face. After a lengthy separation, fate has reunited us. This is a favor from Allah. But for the time being, keep it between the two of us. Both of Joseph's brothers sobbed with happiness as Benjamin threw his arms around him.

As soon as they entered the room ahead of Joseph, he called his brother Benjamin to himself and exclaimed, "Truly! Do not be saddened by what they used to do; I am your brother.

Except when Allah willed it, he was not permitted to take his brother by the terms of the king's legislation (as a slave). As a result, Allah forced the brothers to commit to their method of "punishment, i.e., enslaving a thief." We promote whoever We desire to higher positions, yet the All-Knowing (Allah) rules supreme over everyone who possesses knowledge.

They (Joseph's brothers) retorted: "If he steals, there was a brother of his (Joseph) who did steal before him." However, Joseph kept these things to himself and did not divulge their identities to anyone. "You are in the worst case, and Allah knows best the truth of what you assert," he added (to himself).

Therefore, until my father gives his consent or Allah settles my cause (by releasing Benjamin), who is the Best of Judges, I won't leave this country. (Qur'an, Ch. 12:68–80).

The brothers left Judah with enough food so that he could wait at a bar for the brothers' fate. While Benjamin was being protected, Joseph kept Benjamin as a special guest in his home and explained how he had come up with the plan to hide the king's cup in his luggage. Judah was a kind-hearted brother, therefore he was also happy that he had stayed behind.

When they encountered their father, Allah revealed to us what transpired:

Jacob responded, "Nay, but you were duped into doing anything by yourself. Therefore, I am most suited to patience. Perhaps Allah will bring all of them back to me. He is real! Only He is All-Wise and All-Knowing.

The father felt terrible pain. He could only find solace and patience and faith in prayer. Jacob nearly lost his sight while grieving for his favorite son Joseph all those years and the loss of another of his best sons.

To reach Egypt, the caravan left. The brothers were destitute and on their way to see Joseph, the chief minister.

At the end, they begged Joseph. They begged alms of him, appealing to his heart, telling him that Allah blesses alms givers. While they were in this predicament, Joseph addressed them in their own language, saying:

The brothers started to quake with terror, but Joseph consoled them:

Joseph embraced them, and together they sobbed with pleasure. Joseph gave his brothers the following advice because he knew he couldn't leave his responsible position without a suitable replacement:

The caravan then returned to Palestine. After leaving Egypt, we go back to Palestine and the Jacobite household. The elderly man is sobbing while sitting in his room and has tears running down his cheeks. He abruptly gets up, gets dressed, and walks over to his sons' wives. He then raises his head toward Heaven and inhales.

He made gestures in his room before offering up a protracted prayer while elevating his palms to the sky and inhaling deeply. As the clothing got close to him, he started crying.

Then, as the bringer of good news arrived, he threw the shirt over his face, clearing his vision. Did I not say to you that I knew from Allah what you did not know? "O our father!" they exclaimed. Ask Allah for forgiveness for our faults; we have definitely been sinners. (Ch 12:94-97)

The dream that started the story is also the one that brings it to a close. Allah the Almighty related:

"I will seek pardon from my Lord for you," he declared. Only He is the Most Merciful and Often Forgiving.

After Satan had sowed animosity between me and my brothers, God was truly gracious to me when He released me from prison and brought you all here from the Bedouin lifestyle. My Lord is undoubtedly the Most Courteous and Kind to whomever He Wills. He is real! Only He is All-Wise and All-Knowing. (Ch 12:98-100)

Think about how he feels now that his dream has materialized. He supplicates to Allah:

"Oh my God! You have actually conferred on me of the sovereignty, and taught me the meaning of my dreams; The only Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Wali (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian etc). in this world and in the Hereafter, cause me to die as a Muslim (the one conforming to Your Will), and unite me with the virtuous." (Ch 12:101)

To request the king's approval for them to live in Egypt, Joseph set up a meeting for himself and his family. The monarch was pleased to have Joseph stay with his family because he was a stronghold for the realm. Joseph made a thank-you prostration before Allah.

Or were you present when Jacob's demise was imminent? When the father asked his sons, "What will you worship after me?" they replied, "We will worship your Ilah (God-Allah), the Ilah (God) of your father." In Islam, we surrender to the One Ilah (God), Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac. (Quran, Ch. 12:133).

When Joseph (pbuh) passed away, he requested that his brothers bury him next to his ancestors if they were to leave Egypt. As a result, after Joseph (pbuh) died, he was mummified and kept in a casket until he could be removed from Egypt and laid to rest next to his ancestors, as he had requested. It was reported that he passed away at the age of 110.
