A Cultural Function | Have Attended (আমার যোগ দেয়া একটি সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান)
A cultural function is an important occasion that brings joy and relief in our dull routine life. We remember the thrill of the function for long afterwards. Recently I attended a cultural function arranged by the Students Union of our college on the occasion of the prize-giving ceremony of the literary competition. It was, in tact, a warm and enjoyable function during the last season of winter. I took part in it with great enthusiams and returned home with charm and satisfaction. After the distribution of the prizes by our principal, the cultural function began. It was held in the hallroom of our college. Almost all the teachers and the students attended it. The function began with reciting from the holy Quran. Then Nazrul and Rabindra 'sangeet' were rendered by the college students. The songs were interspersed with recitations from the poems of the two great poets. Then a group of artists of the local Lalon Parishad sang Baul songs which were highly appreciated by the audience. The function was rounded off with a patriotic song.
অনুবাদ : একটি সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সময় যা ছকবাঁধা নিরানন্দ জীবনে আনন্দ ও স্বস্তি আনে। অনুষ্ঠানের শিহরণ পরবর্তীকালে অনেকদিন আমাদের মনে পড়ে। সম্প্রতি আমি আমাদের কলেজে সাহিত্য প্রতিযোগিতার পুরস্কার বিতরণ উপলক্ষে ছাত্র-সংসদ কর্তৃক আয়োজিত এক সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানে যোগদান করি। বলতে গেলে, গত শীতের ঋতুতে এটা ছিল একটি উষ্ণ ও উপভোগ্য আয়োজন। আমি খুব উৎসাহ নিয়ে অনুষ্ঠানে যোগদান করি এবং আনন্দ ও সন্তুষ্টি নিয়ে বাড়ি ফিরি। আমাদের অধ্যক্ষ কর্তৃক পুরস্কার বিতরণের পর সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয়। এটি আমাদের কলেজ মিলনায়তনে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। প্রায় সকল শিক্ষক ও ছাত্রছাত্রী এতে যোগ দিয়েছিল। পবিত্র কুরআন তিলওয়াতের মাধ্যমে অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয়। এরপর কলেজের ছাত্রছাত্রীরা নজরুল গীতি ও রবীন্দ্রসংগীত পরিবেশন করে। সংগীতের মাঝে মাঝে দুই মহান কবির কবিতা থেকে আবৃত্তি পরিবেশিত হয়। এরপর স্থানীয় লালন পরিষদের একদল শিল্পী বাউল গান পরিবেশন করে যা দর্শক কর্তৃক উচে প্রশংসিত হয়। অনুষ্ঠানটি একটি দেশাত্মবোধক গান দিয়ে ভালোভাবে শেষ হয়।
A Tea Party (চা-চক্র)
Nowadays tea party has become a part and parcel of our culture. We often give a tea party to celebrate something or are often invited by our friends or relatives to take part in a tea party. In a tea party not only tea but also some snacks are served. It is generally held in the evening or in the afternoon. Last week I took part in a tea party that was thrown by one of my bosom friends to celebrate the victory of Bangladesh football team over India in the SAF Games. All of our friends gathered at his house according to the schedule. To make accommodation and the party enjoyable my friend had totally occupied the roof for that evening and it also turned into a short music party. One of his servants served some snacks among us at first. While taking the snacks we were talking about the performance of the Bangladeshi players. We grew tired discussing so much on this matter but when the tea was served we became fresh and returned to our discussion with new energy. A cup of tea gave us such an energy that prolonged our discussion. I enjoyed the party very much and I think, in the busy world, a tea party is very effective for a social gathering.
অনুবাদ : আজকাল চা-চক্র আমাদের সংস্কৃতির একটি অবিচ্ছেদ্য অংশ হয়ে দাড়িয়েছে। আমরা এখন কোনো কিছু উদযাপন করতে চা-চক্রের আয়োজন করে থাকি এবং প্রায়শই আমাদের বন্ধু-বান্ধব এবং আত্মীয়ের দ্বারা চা-চক্রে নিমন্ত্রিত হই। চা-চক্রে শুধু চা-ই পরিবেশন করা হয় না কিছু নাস্তারও ব্যবস্থা থাকে। এটি সাধারণত বিকেলে অথবা সন্ধ্যায় অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। গত সপ্তাহে সাফ গেমস্-এ বাংলাদেশ ফুটবল দলের ভারতের বিরুদ্ধে বিজয় উপলক্ষে আমার এক ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধুর দেয়া চা-চক্রে আমি অংশগ্রহণ করেছিলাম। পূর্ব সময়সূচি অনুসারে আমাদের সকল বন্ধু তার বাসায় সমবেত হয়েছিল। স্থান সংকুলান ও চা-চক্রকে উপভোগ্য করার জন্য আমার বন্ধু সেদিন সন্ধ্যায় তাদের ছাদটি পুরোপুরি দখল করেছিল এবং এটা একটি ছোট সংগীত আসরের রূপ নিয়েছিল। তার এক ভৃত্য প্রথমে আমাদের মধ্যে নাস্তা বিতরণ করল। নাস্তা খেতে খেতে আমরা বাংলাদেশ ফুটবল দলের খেলোয়াড়দের কৃতিত্ব নিয়ে আলোচনা করলাম। আলোচনা করতে করতে আমরা ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়েছিলাম, কিন্তু যখন চা বিতরণ করা হলো আমরা সতেজ হয়ে নতুন উদ্যমে আমাদের আলোচনায় অংশ নিলাম। সামান্য এক কাপ চা আমাদের এতটাই প্রনোদনা দিয়েছিল যে আমাদের আড্ডা দীর্ঘস্থায়ী হয়েছিল। আমি চা-চক্রটি খুব উপভোগ করেছিলাম এবং আমার মনে হয়, আধুনিক ব্যস্ত সমাজে চা-চক্র সামাজিক সমাবেশের জন্য খুবই ফলপ্রসূ।
Blood Bank ( ব্লাড ব্যাংক )
A blood bank is a place where blood is stored for future use in hospitals. It is similar to a money bank where people deposit money and draw it when necessary. But in a blood bank the blood is not deposited in individual names. Mostly blood is donated voluntarily and those who donate blood are inspired by the noble spirit of charity and fellow-feeling. A blood bank is an indispensable part of a modern hospital. Patients who are injured or undergo major operation need blood without which their lives are in danger. The blood bank comes torwards to help them and save their lives. The blood bank has listed donors. Besides, people, inspired by noble spirit, donate blood on some public day or festival. But when receiving blood for the bank, it should be properly tested, because fatal diseases like AIDS, jaundice etc. can spread through blood.
অনুবাদ : ব্লাড ব্যাংক একটি প্রতিষ্ঠান যেখানে ভবিষ্যতে হাসপাতালে ব্যবহারের জন্য রক্ত জমা রাখা হয়। এটি টাকার ব্যাংকের মত যেখানে মানুষ টাকা জমা রাখে এবং প্রয়োজনবোধে উঠাতে পারে। কিন্তু ব্লাড ব্যাংকে ব্যক্তি বিশেষের নামে রক্ত জমা রাখা হয় না। অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রে স্বেচ্ছাকৃতভাবে রক্তদান করা হয় এবং যারা রক্তদান করে তারা পরহিতব্রতে মহান সত্তায় সহানুভূতির অনুপ্রেরণায় রক্ত দান করে। ব্লাড ব্যাংক আধুনিক হাসপাতালের একটি অপরিহার্য অংশ। মারাত্মক আঘাতপ্রাপ্ত রোগী এবং বড় অপারেশনে এ রক্তের প্রয়োজন। যার অভাবে রোগীদের জীবন বিপদাপন্ন হয়। ব্লাড ব্যাংক তাদের সহায়তায় এগিয়ে আসে এবং জীবন বাঁচায়। ব্লাড ব্যাংক দাতাদের নাম তালিকাভুক্ত করেছে। তাছাড়া জনগণ তাদের মহৎ সত্তার প্রেরণায় সরকারি বিশেষ দিবসে বা উৎসবের দিনে রক্তদান করে। রক্ত সংগ্রহের আগে সঠিকভাবে পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা করা উচিত কারণ মারাত্মক রোগসমূহ যেমন- এইডস, জন্ডিস প্রভৃতি রক্তের মাধ্যমে ছড়াতে পারে।

Walking in the evening is a good exercise. If this exercise is taken by the bank of rivers it turns into a source of pleasure. For one may get much pleasure to see the river, the rays of the setting sun. The little waves of the river fill the mind with much delight. He is also pleased to see the boats of different sizes plying up and down. In the evening fishermen catch fish. Birds return to their nests. The light of the setting sun gradually becomes gloomy. By enjoying this scenery the mind becomes full of cheer and freshness. Thus an evening walk by the side of a river can be made pleasant by enjoying the sights and scenes of nature.

A Bus Stand Or, A Bus Stop (বাস থামার স্থান)
A bus stand is a place of loading and unloading passengers. A bus stand is usually a place of great din and bustle. Buses arrive and depart and, in the process, give rise to a hue and cry. The jostlings of passengers, the cries of hawkers, the approach of beggars, the altercations between the conductors and passengers are some of the disgusting features of a bus stand. Besides the hooting of horns, the roars of engines and the obnoxious smell of smoke make the place very uncomfortable. At some bus stands, however, there are sheds for passengers to wait. These sheds also accommodate snack-shops, tea-stalls and even shops of books, journals, magazines and newspapers. Effective steps should be taken to improve the dilapidated conditions of bus stand.
