May Day ( মে দিবস)
May Day is a historical day. The worker of Chicago protested against inhuman pressure of work and exploitation in 1886. They demanded time limit for work and other basic facilities of the workers. In fact, they raised their voice for their recognition as men. In consequence, in the month of May in 1886, the streets of Chicago city of America were red with the warm blood of the workers. The capitalist government and its agent adopted every possible means to shoke the voice of the workers. Police shot upon the strike labours and at least one man was killed. But the undaunted workers came out successful sacrificing their lives. The demand for eight hours working time instead of twelve or thirteen hours was accepted and they were provided with some amenities of life. May Day has been a symbol for the workers all over the world. This day makes an unity among the workers of the world. May Day is a spirit of international brotherhood and unity of the workers. Therefore, all the workers in the world should be inspired to keep the honour of the day.
অনুবাদ : মে দিবস একটি ঐতিহাসিক দিবস। ১৮৮৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দে শিকাগো শহরে শ্রমজীবী মানুষেরা কাজের অমানবিক চাপ এবং শ্রমিক শোষণের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ করে। তারা শ্রমের সময়সীমা এবং শ্রমিকের অন্যান্য মৌলিক সুযোগ সুবিধা দাবি করে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, মানুষ হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি আদায়ের লক্ষে তারা সোচ্চার হয়। তার ফলে, ১৮৮৬ সালের মে মাসে আমেরিকার শিকাগো শহরের রাস্তা শ্রমিকের উষ্ণ রক্তে রঞ্জিত হয়। পুঁজিবাদী সরকার ও তার দোসররা সবরকম সম্ভাব্য ফন্দিতে শ্রমিকদের কণ্ঠ রোধ করতে (গলা টিপে ধরতে চেয়েছিল। পুলিশ ধর্মঘটকারীদের উপর গুলি করে এবং কমপক্ষে একজন নিহত হয়। কিন্তু নির্ভীক শ্রমিকরা তাদের জীবনের বিনিময়ে বিজয় লাভ করে। বারো যা তের ঘণ্টার বদলে আট ঘণ্টার শ্রম-সময়ের দাবী গৃহীত হয় এবং সুখী জীবনের কিছু সুযোগ সুবিধা তাদের প্রদান করা হয়। এ দিনটি পৃথিবীর সকল মেহনতী মানুষকে ঐক্যবদ্ধ করে। সারা পৃথিবীর শ্রমজীবী মানুষের নিকট মে দিবস একটি প্রতীকী তাৎপর্য বহন করে। এ দিনটিতে বিশ্বের সমস্ত মেহনতী মানুষের মধ্যে ঐক্য গড়ে ওঠে। মে দিবস আন্তর্জাতিক ভ্রাতৃত্ব বোধের এবং শ্রমিক ঐক্যের ভাবমূর্তি বাহক। অতএব, দিবসটির মর্যাদা রক্ষা করতে পৃথিবীর সব শ্রমিকের উদ্দীপ্ত হওয়া উচিত।
Mobile Phone (মোবাইল ফোন)
The mobile phone is one of the latest editions of modern telecommunication technology. It is handy and portable as the term 'mobile' signifies. It is a small telephone that can be carried in a hand or pocket. The effective speaking range of man is only a few yeards. But with the help of mobile phone he has increased the range to thousands of miles. Mobile phone was invented by Martin Cooper in 1978. It is just a tiny device but powerful enough to exchange sound, text, picture, animation, video and even live television. It is now used all over the world as an essential part of life. It is also regarded as a small computer for internet and multimedia services being available into it. The short message service (SMS) into mobile phone is extremely populer and useful too. in Bangladesh, just after being introduced in 1992, it has rapidly been spread out across the country. A mobile phone is very useful to important persons such as politicians, artists, doctors, businessmen and high officials. But like all other gifts of science it is not an unmixed blessing. The mobile phone is a useful instrument and it can be used by both good and bad people. The police can use it in maintaining law and order and detecting the criminals, and the criminals can make use of it in committing crimes. The mobile phone is, however, an inseperable annexation to the modern life-style.
অনুবাদ : মোবাইল ফোন হচ্ছে আধুনিক টেলিযোগাযোগ প্রযুক্তির এক সর্বাধুনিক সংস্করণ। মোবাইল শব্দটির দ্বারা যা বুঝা যায় এটা ঠিক তাই অর্থাৎ সুবিধাজনক ও সহজে বহনযোগ্য। এটা একটা ছোট টেলিফোন সেট যা হাতে অথবা পকেটে বহন করা যায়। মানুষের কথা বলার কার্যকর দূরত্ব মাত্র কয়েক গজ। কিন্তু মোবাইল ফোনের সাহায্যে সে তার কথা বলার পরিধি হাজার হাজার মাইলে বৃদ্ধি করেছে। ১৯৭৮ সালে মার্টিন কুপার মোবাইল ফোন আবিষ্কার করেন। এটা খুবই হালকা একটি যন্ত্র কিন্তু শব্দ, লেখা, চিত্র, জীবন্ত ছবি, ভিডিও এমনকি সরাসরি টেলিভিশন চিত্র সম্প্রচার করার মতো যথেষ্ট ক্ষমতাসম্পন্ন। বর্তমানে এটি জীবনের একটি অপরিহার্য অংশ হিসেবে সমগ্র বিশ্বে ব্যবহৃত হচ্ছে। এর মধ্যে ইন্টারনেট ও মাল্টিমিডিয়া সেবা সহজলভ্য হওয়ায় এটাকে ছোট কম্পিউটারও মনে করা হয়। মোবাইলের এস. এম. এস সেবাটি সর্বোচ্চ জনপ্রিয় ও কার্যকর। বাংলাদেশে ১৯৯২ সালে মোবাইল ফোনের প্রচলন ঘটার পর অতি দ্রুত এটি সমগ্র দেশজুড়ে ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। রাজনীতিবিদ, চিত্রশিল্পী, চিকিৎসক, ব্যবসায়ী ও পদস্থ কর্মকর্তাদের মতো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তিদের জন্য মোবাইল ফোন খুবই দরকারি। কিন্তু বিজ্ঞানের অন্য সব অবদানের মতোই এটা পুরে।পরি আশীর্বাদ নয়। মোবাইল ফোন একটি প্রয়োজনীয় যন্ত্র এবং এটা ভালো ও মন্দ উভয় প্রকার 'লোকই ব্যবহার করতে পারে। পুলিশ এটা ব্যবহার করতে পারে আইন-শৃংখলা রক্ষার্থে ও অপরাধী ধরতে। আর অপরাধীরা একে অপরাধ করার জন্যে ব্যবহার করতে পারে। যা হোক, আধুনিক জীবনরীতিতে মোবাইল ফোন একটি অবিচ্ছেদ্য সংযোজন ।
My Favourite Poet (আমার প্রিয় কবি)
Among the poets of Bengali literature, Kazi Nazrul Islam is my favourite poet. He was born at Churulia in the district of Burdwan in West Bengal in 1899. His father's name was Kazi Fakir Ahmed and his mother's name was Zaheda Khatun. His parents lost four children before his birth. So, they gave him the nick name Dukhu Mia. In his early life, he lost his parents. For this, he had to struggle hard against poverty. I like him very much because he voiced against injustice, tyranny, exploitation etc. His writings awakened the sleeping people of this sub-continent. It was Nazrul through whom the people began to dream for a golden future. He made them conscious of their rights. He helped them to fight for independence and to break the bondage of slavery and fetters of subjugation by his pen. His famous creations are Agni Bina, Bisher Banshi, Bandhan Hara, Rikter Bedan, Bidrohi, Agamani, Proloyshikha, Sharbahara, Dolanchapa, Fanimanasha, Mukti, Chakrabak etc. Besides, he wrote several thousand songs. His songs and Gajals are ever appealing to all classes of people. He is also a skilful translator. He is our national poet. He is called the rebel poet because of his struggling attitude. After all, he is our inspiration and that is why I love him from the very core of my heart.
অনুবাদ : বাংলা সাহিত্যের কবিদের মধ্যে কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম আমার প্রিয় কবি। তিনি ১৮৯৯ সালে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের বর্ধমান জেলার চুরুলিয়ায় জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর পিতার নাম ছিল কাজী ফকির আহমেদ এবং মাতার নাম ছিল জাহেদা খাতুন। তাঁর পিতামাতা তাঁর জন্মের পূর্বে চারটি সন্তান হারান। তাই তাঁরা তাঁর ডাক নাম রাখলেন দুখু মিয়া। তাঁর শৈশবে তিনি তাঁর বাবা-মাকে হারান। এজন্য তাঁকে দারিদ্র্যের বিরুদ্ধে কঠিন সংগ্রাম করতে হয়েছিল। আমি তাঁকে বেশি পছন্দ করি কারণ তিনি অবিচার, অত্যাচার, শোষণ প্রভৃতির বিরুদ্ধে তাঁর কন্ঠ ধ্বনিত করেছিলেন। তাঁর লেখা এ উপমহাদেশের ঘুমন্ত জনগণকে জাগিয়ে তুলেছিল। নজরুল সেই ব্যক্তি যাঁর মাধ্যমে মানুষ একটি সোনালী ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্ন দেখেছিল। তিনি তাদেরকে তাদের অধিকার সম্পর্কে সচেতন করে তুলেছিলেন। তিনি তাদেরকে স্বাধীনতার সংগ্রাম করতে এবং দাসত্বের বন্ধন ও পরাধীনতার শৃঙ্খল ভেঙ্গে ফেলতে সাহায্য করেছিলেন তাঁর লেখার মাধ্যমে। অগ্নিবীণা, বিষের বাঁশি, বাঁধন হারা, রিক্তের বেদন, বিদ্রোহী, আগমনী, প্রলয় শিখা, সর্বহারা, দোলন চাঁপা, ফনীমনসা, মুক্তি, চক্রবাক ইত্যাদি তাঁর বিখ্যাত সৃষ্টি কর্ম। তাছাড়া তিনি কয়েক হাজার গান রচনা করেছিলেন। তাঁর গান এবং গজলসমূহ এখনও সব শ্রেণির লোকের মধ্যে আবেদন সৃষ্টি করে। তিনি একজন দক্ষ অনুবাদকও ছিলেন। তিনি আমাদের জাতীয় কবি। তাঁর সংগ্রামী মনোভাবের জন্য মানুষ তাঁকে বিদ্রোহী কবি বলে ডাকে। সর্বোপরি তিনি আমাদের প্রেরণার উৎস আর এজন্যই আমি তাঁকে আমার হৃদয়ের অন্তঃস্থল থেকে ভালোবাসি।
My Favourite Game (আমার প্রিয় খেলা)
Cricket is my favourite game. It is an outdoor, game. It is an interesting game. The game is played between two teams. Each team consists of eleven players. A cricket field must be spacious. It must have a turf. Two wooden bats, a ball and two sets of stumps are also needed. Generally, the duration of a cricket match is 100 overs with tea-break. Two umpires conduct the game. Sometimes, a third umpire is required to solve acute confusion. Each over consists of six balls. Before the beginning of the game, a toss is held between two captains to specify Fielding group' and 'Batting group. The bowler starts bowling. He tries his level best to out the batsman. The batsman tries to save himself and to make a good score. The batsman may be out in many ways such as 'bowled out', 'run out', 'stumped out', 'caught out' etc. Taking the opportunity, the batsman hits the ball away at a good distance and runs to the opposite wicket. The batsman at the other wicket runs to his place. Thus one run is scored. If the ball crosses the boundary line, four runs are made. And if it flies over the boundary line, six runs are made. If any batsman is out, he leaves the place, another batsman comes to his place. After interval, the fielding group 'comes to bat and batting party goes to field. Both teams try heart and soul to out all batsman of opposite team. The party which can score more runs wins the game. Cricket teaches patience, obedience manliness, co-operation, promptness and lessons of team work. It makes the player active and laborious. It entertains and excites the spectators. For these various reasons cricket is my favourite game.
অনুবাদ : ক্রিকেট আমার প্রিয় খেলা। এটি একটি বহি:কক্ষ চিত্তাকর্ষক খেলা। দু'টি দলের মধ্যে খেলাটি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। প্রতিটি দল ১১ জন খেলোয়াড় নিয়ে গঠিত হয়। ক্রিকেটের মাঠ অবশ্যই বড় হতে হবে। এতে অবশ্যই ঘাস থাকবে। এছাড়াও দু'টি কাঠের ব্যাট, একটি বল ও দু'জোড়া স্ট্যাম্পের প্রয়োজন হয়। চা বিরতিসহ প্রতিটি ক্রিকেট ম্যাচের স্থায়িত্ব ১০০ ওভার। দু'জন আম্পায়ার খেলা পরিচালনা করেন। মাঝে মাঝে জটিল মুহূর্তে থার্ড আম্পায়ারের হস্তক্ষেপ প্রয়োজন হয়। প্রতিটি ওভারে ৬টা বল থাকে। খেলা শুরুর পূর্বে দুই অধিনায়কের মধ্যে ‘টস' অনুষ্ঠিত হয় 'ব্যাটিং' ও 'ফিল্ডিং' গ্রুপ নির্ধারণ করার জন্য। বোলার বোলিং করা শুরু করে। বোলার যথাসাধ্য চেষ্টা করে ব্যাটসম্যানকে আউট করার জন্য। ব্যাটসম্যান চেষ্টা করে নিজেকে বাঁচিয়ে একটি ভালো স্কোর করার জন্য। ব্যাটসম্যান নানাভাবে আউট হতে পারে যেমন- 'বোল্ড আউট', 'রান আউট', 'স্ট্যাম্পড আউট', 'কট আউট' প্রভৃতি। সুযোগ বুঝে ব্যাটসম্যান বলে আঘাত করে বিপরীত উইকেটে দৌড়ে যায়। অপরদিকের ব্যাটসম্যান এ পাশে দৌড়ে আসে। এভাবে ১ রান হয়। যখন বল বাউন্ডারি অতিক্রম করে তখন চার রান হয়। যখন বল বাউন্ডারির উপর দিয়ে যায় তখন হয় ছয় রান। কোনো ব্যাটসম্যান আউট হলে সে স্থান ত্যাগ করে। তার স্থানে অন্য একজন আসে। বিরতির পর, ফিল্ডিং গ্রুপ ব্যাট করতে আসে এবং ব্যাটিং দল ফিল্ডিং করতে যায়। “দু'পক্ষই সর্বাত্মক চেষ্টা করে অপরপক্ষের সব ব্যাটসম্যানকে আউট করার জন্য। যে দল সর্বাধিক রান করে সে-ই জয়লাভ করে। ক্রিকেট খেলা ধৈর্য, আনুগত্য, পৌরুষ, সহযোগিতা, প্রত্যুৎপন্নমতিত্ব ও পুরো দল মিলেমিশে কাজ করার শিক্ষা দেয়। ক্রিকেট খেলা খেলোয়াড়দের কর্মঠ ও পরিশ্রমী হতে শিখায়। এটি দর্শকদের উত্তেজিত করে ও আনন্দ দান করে। এসব বিভিন্ন কারণে ক্রিকেট আমার প্রিয় খেলা।
My Favourite Book (আমার প্রিয় বই )
The 'Treasure Island' by RL Stevension is my favourite book. In fact, it is a great favourite with me. The hero of the book is a boy of thirteen. His name is Jim Hawkins. He accidentally happened to be in a treasure hunting expedition. The treasure was hidden in a far off lonely island by some pirates. Jim and his party as well as a gang of pirates were seeking for it. It is a long story of great struggles, adventures and heroic deeds. It is full of thrill and suspense as well as horrors and terrors. Jim, by his bravery, saved his friends from John Silver, the most dangerous pirate that ever lived. He was defeated by Jim. In the long run he fled away in terror. Jim and his friends got the treasure and returned to England with theire purses full of gold. When I find that the young hero wins over the forces of the evil I get a great pulsation of joy and delight. The author knows the magic of holding the young people spellbound in it.
