A Visit to the National Museum (জাতীয় যাদুঘর পরিদর্শন)
It was my long cherished desire to visit the National Museum which is situated at Shahbag in Dhaka. One day I got an opportunity to visit the National Museum when I went to my uncle's house in Dhaka. One Friday being accompanied by my cousin I went to Shahbag by bus. We bought two tickets for entrance into the museum. We entered into the museum and went to the first floor of the building which is the starting point of exhibition. At first, we saw a big map of Bangladesh in which every district and even Upazilas are marked by lights. Then we started to see all the things one after another. There are so many things to see in the museum that one cannot believe without seeing with one's own eyes. Among them, the skeleton of whale, sculptures, world famous Moslim Sharee, Nakshi Kantha, the images of wild animals, musical instruments, different types of coins of the past, war weapons are noteworthy. In the second floor, the picture of renowned and historica! figures of our country are preserved. I have enriched my knowledge seeing the things used in our liberation war. We had to spend about two and half an hour visiting all the things. We had to follow the rules of themuseum. We were not allowed to touch the arranged things. We have gathered practical experience on visiting our culture, tradition, heritage, history and liberation in the National Museum.
অনুবাদ : জাতীয় যাদুঘর পরিদর্শন করা ছিল আমার দীর্ঘ দিনের লালিত স্বপ্ন যেটি ঢাকার শাহবাগে অবস্থিত। একদিন ঢাকায় আমার চাচার বাসায় বেড়ানোর সময় আমি জাতীয় যাদুঘর পরিদর্শনের সুযোগ পেয়েছিলাম। এক শুক্রবারে আমি আমার চাচাত ভাইয়ের সাথে বাসে করে শাহবাগ গিয়েছিলাম। যাদুঘরে প্রবেশের জন্য আমরা দুটি টিকেট কিনেছিলাম। আমরা যাদুঘরে প্রবেশ করলাম এবং ভবনের প্রথম তলাতে গিয়েছিলাম যেটি ছিল প্রদর্শনীর প্রথম পদক্ষেপ। প্রথমে আমরা বাংলাদেশের বড় ম্যাপ দেখতে পেলাম যেখানে আলোর দ্বারা প্রতিটি জেলা এবং উপজেলা নির্দেশ করা ছিল। তারপর আমরা সমস্ত কিছু একটার পর একটা দেখতে শুরু করলাম। যাদুঘরে দেখার মতো অনেক কিছু আছে যা যে কেউ নিজ চোখে না দেখা পর্যন্ত বিশ্বাস করতে পারবে না। তার মধ্যে তিমির কঙ্কাল, ভাস্কর্য, বিশ্ববিখ্যাত মসলিন শাড়ি, নকশিকাঁথা, বন্যপ্রাণীর প্রতিমূর্তি, বাদ্যযন্ত্র, অতীতের বিভিন্ন ধরনের মুদ্রা, যুদ্ধাস্ত্রসমূহ হলো মূল্যবান প্রতীক। দ্বিতীয় তলাতে আমাদের দেশের খ্যাতিমান ও ঐতিহাসিক ব্যক্তিত্বদের প্রতিকৃতি সংরক্ষণ করা হয়েছে। স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধে ব্যবহৃত জিনিসগুলো দেখে আমি আমার জ্ঞানকে সমৃদ্ধ করেছি। সবকিছু পর্যবেক্ষণ করতে আমাদের আড়াই ঘণ্টা সময় লেগেছিল। আমাদের যাদুঘরের নিয়ম-কানুন মেনে চলতে হয়েছিল। উপস্থাপিত বিষয়সমূহের উপর হাত দিতে আমরা অনুমতি পেলাম না। জাতীয় যাদুঘর পরিদর্শন করে আমরা আমাদের সংস্কৃতি, প্রথা, ঐতিহ্য, ইতিহাস এবং স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধ সম্পর্কে বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জন করেছিলাম।
A Street Accident I have Witnessed (আমার দেখা একটি সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা)
Yesterday I had o witness a very shocking street accident. It thoroughly shook me with horror. I just stood before a shop atGreen Road. A long line of cars, baby taxis, tempos, motor scooters, rickshaws and other vehicular traffic vere playing towrds the north, and a similar line of them were plying towards the south. A jeep was coming up at top speed from the south and I waited till it ran off past me. Just at that moment a rickshaw ahead oime was hit by the jeep and the driver was thrown down under its wheels. All this happened in an insint. I rushed to the spot and shuddered back from the sight. It was nothing but a mutilated human body with smashed skull in a pool of blood. The unfortunate rickshaw-driver died on the spot. I retraced my steps unittingly as I could not bear the ghastly sight. A large crowd gathered there immediately. I was wholly upset. I me back home with the macabre scene haunting my mind.
অনুবাদ : গতকাল আমি একটি মর্মান্তিক সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা প্রত্যক্ষ করেছি। এতে আমি আতংকগ্রস্ত হয়ে পড়েছিলাম। আমি গ্রীন রোডের একটি দোকানের সামনে দাঁড়িয়েছিলাম। উত্তর দিক থেকে কার, বেবী ট্যাক্সি, টেম্পো, মটোর স্কুটার, রিকশা এবং অন্যান্য যানবাহনের একটি লাইন উত্তরমুখী এবং অনুরূপ একটি লাইন দক্ষিণমুখী ছিল। দক্ষিণ দিক থেকে খুব দ্রুত একটি জীপ গাড়ি আসছিল এবং আমাকে গাড়িটি অতিক্রম করা পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করছিলাম। ঠিক সেই সময় জীপ গাড়িটি একটি রিকশাকে ধাক্কা দিল এবং রিকশাচালক চাকার নিচে পিস্ট হয়ে গেল। পুরো ঘটনাটি এক নিমিষে ঘটে গেল। আমি দৌড়ে সেই স্থানে গেলাম এবং হতভম্ব হয়ে পড়লাম। সেটি একটি চূর্ণবিচূর্ণ মাথার খুলির থেতলানো রক্তাক্ত মানবদেহ ছাড়া আর কিছুই ছিল না। হতভাগা রিকশাচালকটি তৎক্ষণাৎ মারা গেল। এই পরিস্থিতি সহ্য করতে না পেরে অজ্ঞাতসারে পিছনের দিকে চলে এলাম। সেখানে শীঘ্রই প্রচুর ভিড় জমে গেল। আমি বিপর্যস্ত হয়ে পড়লাম। এই ভয়ংকর দৃশ্য মনে নিয়ে বাসায় ফিরলাম।
A Wedding Ceremony / Attended (আমার অংশগ্রহণ করা একটি বিবাহ অনুষ্ঠান)
A wedding ceremony is a matter of joy and enjoyment. Recently I have attended a wedding ceremony of one of my friends' sister. This enjoyable ceremony took place on the 25th instant at Samrat Community Centre at Jatrabari in Dhaka. It was really an attractive ceremony. The whole place was colourfully decorated. A big and nicely designed gate was made at the entrance of the community centre. In the evening, the gate and the whole community centre were illuminated with multi-coloured electric bulbs. The invited guests began to come in the evening in motorcars or taxicabs. The bridegroom's party started from Gulistan at 7:00pm and reached the community centre at 7:30 pm. About 800 guests from both sides attended the ceremony. My friend's father Mr Rahman and mother Mrs Rahman received the guests very cordially. Then the guests were given seats with great modesty. After a short time, the tables were full of dishes with delicious foods. After taking rice, the guests were entertained with curd and cold drinks. The bearers of the community centre served the dinner. Nevertheless, my friend's parents looked after the guests sincerely. After finishing the dinner, the formalities of the marriage were completed in a religious environment, according to the law of our religion. Completing the formalities of marriage, the guests left their respective seats and entered upon friendly chats and gossips in small. groups. Then I felt delighted that the occasion gave me an opportunity to meet many at one place to enjoy a pleasant evening.
অনুবাদ : বিবাহ অনুষ্ঠান হলো আনন্দ উল্লাসের বিষয়। আমি সম্প্রতি আমার এক বন্ধুর বোনের বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দিয়েছিলাম। এই উপভোগ্য অনুষ্ঠানটি এ মাসের ২৫ তারিখে ঢাকার যাত্রাবাড়ির সম্রাট কমিউনিটি সেন্টারে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। এটি সত্যিকার অর্থে ছিল একটি আকর্ষণীয় অনুষ্ঠান। পুরো স্থানটিকে অত্যন্ত আড়ম্বরপূর্ণভাবে সাজানো হয়েছিল। কমিউনিটি সেন্টারের প্রবেশমুখে একটি বড় ও চমৎকার গেইট তৈরি করা হয়েছিল। সন্ধ্যায় গেইট ও সম্পূর্ণ কমিউনিটি সেন্টারটিতে বিচিত্র রকমের বৈদ্যুতিক বাতি দ্বারা আলোকসজ্জা করা হয়েছিল। আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিরা সন্ধ্যার মধ্যেই মোটরগাড়ি ও ট্যাক্সিক্যাবযোগে আসতে শুরু করেছিল। বরযাত্রীর দল সন্ধ্যা ৭টায় গুলিস্তান থেকে রওয়ানা দিয়েছিল এবং ৭:৩০ মিনিটে কমিউনিটি সেন্টারে এসে পৌঁছল। উভয় পক্ষের প্রায় ৮০০ অতিথি অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দিয়েছিল। আমার বন্ধুর বাবা রহমান সাহেব ও মা মিসেস রহমান অতিধিদেরকে অত্যন্ত আন্তরিকতার সাথে গ্রহণ করলেন। তারপর অত্যন্ত বিনয়ের সাথে অতিথিদের নির্ধারিত আসনে বসতে দেয়া হলো। অল্প কিছুক্ষণ পরই টেবিলগুলো সুস্বাদু খাবারে পরিপূর্ণ হয়ে গেল। ভাত খাওয়ার পর অতিথিদের দই ও কোমল পানীয় দ্বারা আপ্যায়িত করা হয়েছিল। কমিউনিটি সেন্টারের বেয়ারারা খাবার পরিবেশন করেছিল। তথাপি আমার বন্ধুর পিতামাতা অত্যন্ত আন্তরিকতার সাথে অতিথিদের দেখাশোনা করলেন। রাতের খাবার শেষ হবার পর, একটি ধর্মীয় পরিবেশে ধর্মীয় অনুশাসন অনুযায়ী বিবাহের কার্যাদি সম্পন্ন করা হলো। বিবাহের আনুষ্ঠানিকতা সম্পন্ন করার পর, অতিথিরা তাদের জন্য বরাদ্ধকৃত আসনগুলো ছেড়ে দিলেন এবং ছোট ছোট দলে বিভক্ত হয়ে প্রীতিপূর্ণ গল্পগুজবে মেতে উঠলেন। তখন আমি এ ভেবে পরম আনন্দ উপভোগ করলাম যে অনুষ্ঠানটি আমাকে একই স্থানে অনেকের সাথে সাক্ষাৎ করতে এবং একটি মনোরম সন্ধ্যা উপভোগ করতে সুযোগ করে দিয়েছিল।

At present, a book fair is a very popular fair in Bangladesh. It is really an attractive fair where different types of books are displayed and sold. Every year in the month of February, a large and gorgeous book fair is held in Bangla Academy. This fair is known as Amar Ekushe Grantha Mela. I am very lucky to visit the Ekushey Boi Mela this year. This fair reminds us the struggle and sacrifice in the language movement. The fair was organised by Bangla Academy in the premises of the institution. I went there with some of my friends. When I entered the main gate of the fair, I found a different environment. I found all sorts of books, dramas, children books, reference books etc. Men, women and children of all ages and classes gathered there. The stalls were occupied by different publishers. From a book stall, I bought some favourite books. In the evening, many poets, novelists and writers came to visit the fair. Besides books, other attractive articles were also sold in the fair. Seminars and cultural programmes were also held in the fair. Book fair is very important because it upgrades our thoughts and expands our knwoledge. I was very delighted visiting such a fair and gathered some new experience there.
অনুবাদ : বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশে বই মেলা হলো একটি জনপ্রিয় মেলা। এটি সত্যিকার অর্থেই একটি আকর্ষণীয় মেলা যেখানে বিভিন্ন ধরনের বই প্রদর্শিত ও বিক্রি হয়। প্রতি বছর ফেব্রুয়ারি মাসে বাংলা একাডেমী প্রাঙ্গণে একটি বিশাল জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ বইমেলা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। এটি অমর একুশের বইমেলা হিসেবে পরিচিত। এ বছর একুশে বই মেলা পরিদর্শন করতে পেরে আমি নিজেকে খুব ভাগ্যবান মনে করি। এ মেলা আমাদের ভাষা আন্দোলনের সংগ্রাম ও ত্যাগের কথা মনে করিয়ে দেয়। মেলাটি ইনস্টিটিউশন প্রাঙ্গণে বাংলা একাডেমী কর্তৃক আয়োজন করা হয়। আমি আমার কতিপয় বন্ধুকে সাথে নিয়ে সেখানে গিয়েছিলাম। যখন আমি মেলার প্রধান ফটকে প্রবেশ করলাম, আমি একটি ভিন্ন পরিবেশ প্রত্যক্ষ করলাম। আমি সকল প্রকার বই যেমন- রূপকথা, পাঠ্যবই, নাটক, শিশুপাঠ, রেফারেন্স বই প্রভৃতি মেলায় দেখতে পেলাম। সকল বয়স এবং শ্রেণির নারী পুরুষ এবং শিশু সেখানে জমায়েত হয়েছিল। দোকানগুলো বিভিন্ন প্রকাশকের দখলে ছিল। আমি একটি বইয়ের দোকান থেকে আমার কিছু প্রিয় বই কিনলাম। সন্ধ্যায় অনেক কবি, ঔপন্যাসিক, লেখক মেলাটি পরিদর্শন করতে এসেছিলেন। বইয়ের পাশাপাশি অন্যান্য আকর্ষণীয় জিনিসপত্রও মেলায় বিক্রি হয়েছিল। মেলায় সেমিনার ও সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানও অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। বইমেলা খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কারণ এটি আমাদের চিন্তাশক্তিকে উন্নত করে এবং আমাদের জ্ঞানকে বিস্তৃত করে। এরূপ একটি মেলা পরিদর্শন করে আমি খুবই আনন্দিত হয়েছিলাম এবং সেখানে কিছু নতুন অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জন করেছিলাম।
A Journey by Boat I Made (আমার নৌকা ভ্রমণ
Any kind of journey is pleasant to all. But a journey by boat is specially very pleasant and enjoyable to me. During the last summer vacation, I and some of my friends made a journey by boat from Munshigonj to Homna. The purpose was to attend the marriage ceremony of my friends elder sister. On the fixed day, we hired a fine boat. We had our breakfast early in the morning and started our journey from Munshigonj ghat at 9:00 am. There were two boatmen. The sky was clear and the weather was fine too. The river was calm. It was full to the brim. As the wind was favourable, the boatmen set sail. Soon the boat began to move fast. We saw a large number of big and small boats plying up and down in the river. We saw some steamers and motor launches plying through the river. Fishermen were catching fish in the river. Boys and girls were swimming. Women were going home with jars filled with water. There were green fields on both sides of the river. Cattle were grazing there. At last, the boat reached Homna ghat at 3 00pm. We got down from the boat and my friend received us cordially. I enjoyed the journey most. It was one of the most memorable days in my life indeed.
অনুবাদ : যে কোনো ধরনের ভ্রমণই সবার নিকট আনন্দদায়ক। কিন্তু আমার নিকট বিশেষ করে নৌকা ভ্রমণ খুবই আনন্দদায়ক এবং উপভোগ্য। গত গ্রীষ্মকালীন ছুটিতে আমি এবং আমার কিছু বন্ধু মুন্সীগঞ্জ থেকে হোমনায় নৌকা ভ্রমণ করেছিলাম। আমার বন্ধুর বড় বোনের বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানে যোগদান ছিল উদ্দেশ্য। নির্ধারিত দিনে আমরা একটি চমত্কার নৌকা ভাড়া করলাম। আমরা খুব সকালে নাস্তা করলাম এবং মুন্সীগঞ্জ ঘাট থেকে সকাল ৯টায় ভ্রমণ শুরু করলাম। দুজন মাঝি ছিল। আকাশ ছিল পরিষ্কার আর আবহাওয়াও ছিল চমৎকার। নদী শান্ত ছিল। এটি ছিল কানায় কানায় পূর্ণ। বায়ু অনুকূলে ছিল বলে মাঝিরা যাত্রা শুরু করল। শীঘ্রই নৌকাটি দ্রুত চলতে লাগল। আমরা ছোট-বড় প্রচুর সংখ্যক নৌকাকে নদীতে হেলে দুলে চলতে দেখেছিলাম। আমরা কিছু স্টীমার এবং মটর লঞ্চকে নদীতে চলতে দেখেছিলাম। জেলেরা নদীতে মাছ ধরছিল। বালক বালিকারা সাঁতার কাটছিল। মহিলারা পানি ভর্তি কলসি নিয়ে বাড়ি যাচ্ছিল। নদীর উভয় পার্শ্বে সবুজ মাঠ ছিল। গবাদিপশু সেখানে চরছিল। অবশেষে বিকেল ৩টায় নৌকাটি হোমনা ঘাটে পৌঁছেছিল। আমরা নৌকা থেকে নেমেছিলাম এবং আমার বন্ধু আমাদেরকে আন্তরিকভাবে গ্রহণ করেছিল। আমি ভ্রমণটি খুব উপভোগ করেছিলাম। বস্তুত এটি ছিল আমার জীবনের সবচেয়ে স্মরণীয় দিনগুলোর একটি।
